Massage Chair Industry Update – September 7, 2015 (Video)

Transcript of Video Titled “Massage Chair Industry Update – September 7, 2015”

microphoneAlan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ and today is our biweekly massage chair industry update for today, September 7th, 2015.

[SCREEN TEXT: Stock Status]

Alan: As far as stock goes, is typically how we start these updates, I don’t have much to report in the way of stock depletions. It looks like Inada’s full of chairs, Osaki, Titan, Apex chairs all seem to be in stock. I haven’t heard anything to lead me to believe that Infinity’s out of stock on anything. They were out of stock on the ‘Black’ on black – actually, you know what, hold on, no, those came in – the ‘Black’ on black Iyashis were supposed to be coming in on September 10th, but they came in last week. I believe that Human Touch has good stock. Panasonic, I never quite know until I place the order, usually they’re back-ordered on the MA73s for a week, anywhere from one to two weeks. Anyway, pretty good stock right now, of course, it’s the middle of summer, or the end of summer, coming in to the fourth quarter, things are going to get a little hairy, a little hectic, and stock will be depleted, but we’ll keep you up to date every two weeks.

[SCREEN TEXT: California Massage Chair Store Update]

Alan: OK, as far as our massage chair store, you know, two weeks ago, I announced the big news of our massage chair store in Southern California. Well, it was about four weeks ago that I signed the lease, and we are still trying to get insurance, liability insurance, that meets the demands and the requirements of the property owner, and we’ve been through three different insurance companies, unable to find the right policy. We’re on our fourth one, and it looks like these guys will finally have it. But they will not give us the key, we can’t begin a build out, we can’t do anything until we have that liability insurance in place. I understand that, I just don’t understand why it’s so complicated, but anyway, also, we are submitting our business license, this Thursday, to the Cerritos City Hall, and so we’re on our way to getting these doors open. We hope they’ll be opened in October. Originally, we thought we could do it at the beginning of October, but with all the hassle just for the insurance, oh, I can’t even wait to see how the permit getting will be, with the city, for the build out, but we will, I’ll keep you posted. We’ve got a new Instagram account, I think it’s called MassageChairs, that’s our handle, our user name, or our account name. You can go there, and see the pictures that we put up so far, which are just the pictures from the day of the signing of the lease, but as we build out, we’ll add pictures to that, and of course, to our blog, and to our Facebook page, and Twitter, and whatnot, but we’ll keep you appraised of the changes to the store as we build it out. But we’re still very, very excited about it, we’ve already picked out a number of chairs that we’re going to have in that showroom, that we don’t have here in the showroom here in Salt Lake. We’re going to have the iRobotics 7, we’re going to have the Ogawa Active, we are going to have the – I believe we’re going to have one of the Osaki Japanese chairs – there’s a couple other chairs I can’t really mention just yet, because they’re not out on the market, but there’ll be some other ones that’ll be coming, and we’ll hopefully have some of those in the store too, but we’re excited about it, and well, I’ll keep you posted.

[SCREEN TEXT: Massage Chair Research Update]

Alan: As far as research projects, which was the other big thing that we announced two weeks ago, the original research that I told you about, that Dr. Olpin had done, by gathering the pre- and post-blood pressure, and pulse, and stress measurements, that data has been actually submitted to one of the researchers in our group. And he’s taking that raw data, and he’s submitting it to a software program that will evaluate the statistical significance of the data, and the last I heard from Michael, or Dr. Olpin, was last week, and he emailed me, and said that things really looked good. The statistical significance is great, and I think they’re also trying to sequester information from people that just sat on a chair, not a massage chair, but a regular chair, pre- and post-blood pressure, and pulse, and we’ll see how that looks compared to the massage chair findings. And of course, that would be good information to know, if just sitting in a chair does you as good as sitting in a massage chair, a regular chair, versus a massage chair, but anyway, that’s kind of exciting, and I’ll tell you more as we hear more about that.

[SCREEN TEXT: Luraco iRobotics 7 Feature Update]

Alan: Also, the iRobotics has a sale price right now, $500 off until the 12th of September. Speaking of the iRobotics 7, we have some, there were some, we had some statistical information that was a little bit wrong, that we had on the website, and I’ll will tell you that some of the corrections include the following: the iRobotics 7 has 100 airbags, not 80, it does have a swivel base, not many chairs have swivel bases, it’s mostly Human Touch chairs that have swivel bases. Well, the iRobotics 7 does have a swivel base, I don’t know to what degree it swivels, but it does apparently swivel. It has a grasping and gripping function, that we don’t see on a lot of chairs, it has vibration, it also has – let’s see, anything that we missed, oh, the original height was supposed to be – the recommended height was 5′ 5″ to 7,’ or 5′ 6″ to 7.’ Well, they’ve altered that, and now it’s 5′ up to 6′ 7,” and I know that was a wise adjustment, because I had a customer who was 6′ 7,” and he fit in that, but it was not – I remember him telling me ‘I can’t imagine somebody 7′ fitting in this’ – and so they’ve adjusted the measurements to, from 5′ up to 6′ 7,” and there’s 12 motors, instead of 10. So, those are the changes there that we made, or that’s been changed on our website, as well as on our comparison chart, for you.

[SCREEN TEXT: iRobotics 6SL to be Discontinued in Dec. 2015]

Alan: Also, from Luraco, they’re going to be discontinuing the i6SL chair, which is the chair that we’ve had in our showroom. They’re discontinuing that in – they’re discontinuing production in December 2015 – so when the production’s done, the existing stock will be sold out, and then that will be the end of the i6SL. But they are coming out with an iRobotics 6 Plus, which should be out in the first quarter of 2016, so that’s anywhere from January to March. It will be the same price as the 6SL, but with a completely new design, and improved features, so that’s exciting. Luraco is an interesting company, they’ve been around a while, they’ve been around a long time, their primary source of business in the past has been defense contracts, and salon spa chairs. Well, they branched out about two years ago – yeah, maybe two, a little over two years ago – to massage chairs, you know, residential massage chairs, and they came out with their i6, and then they upgraded that to the 6SL, now the 7, and now they’re abandoning the 6SL, to the new 6 Plus. But what I like about Luraco is that all their technical support is here, their engineers are here, all the electronic manufacturing is here in the United States, all their quality control testing is done here, and all their assembly is done here. And I like that because you can tell that they – as one of my customers put it, they’re hungry, they really want to make a make a mark in the industry – even though their chairs have only been around a few years, their business has been around for quite a few years, and they’ve won a number of awards in the defense industry. And I can tell from their approach to building this chair, and deploying this chair, that they’re really big in to quality control, customer support, making sure this chair is the best chair it could possibly be. Now, it’s priced the same as the DreamWave, I can’t remember the feel of it, how it compared to the DreamWave, I remember it being a little bit more vigorous, but it has a plethora of additional features, like foot rollers, zero gravity, the music system, a very, you know, like an iPhone-like touch pad, or a smartphone-like touch pad, it’s really a progressive chair, with half the components made in the USA, and we’ve been selling quite a few of them, it’s been a fairly popular chair, coming out of the gate. And as you know, I went there and visited them back in April, or March, in March, and they were supposed to have the chair ready in April. Well, it took them until June or July to get all the software tweaks taken care of, and the chair now, is functional, and deployed. So, anyway, just to let you know, that iRobotics 7 chair feature changes, for those of you that are really big in to, you know, quantifying the features, and making sure you understand everything about the chair.

[SCREEN TEXT: Osaki Marquis & Intelligent Discontinued]

Alan: I will also – oh, speaking of discontinued chairs, Osaki/Titan have discontinued the Osaki Intelligent, and the Osaki Marquis – those chairs, they still have some in stock. I wouldn’t buy them on my site, you can get them on Osaki’s site for like half the price, or a very low price, I think, a really low price. So, we’ll be taking it off our website eventually when it is officially discontinued, but the Marquis and the Intelligent have been discontinued, existing stock is left, and they will sell that out, and you won’t see that chair anymore.

[SCREEN TEXT: 18 Month/0% Financing Until Tomorrow!]

Alan: OK, we also have just a reminder that until tomorrow, we have the 18-month financing through Synchrony Bank. A few times a year, I think it’s five or six times a year, they lower their rates on the processing fees, usually it’s like 10%, it’s very expensive to have, the longer the term, the higher the price of the fees that I pay. So, I’ve got to be very careful with managing our profit margin, that I’m not, you know, giving away the farm, so to speak, with really high merchant processing fees, as opposed to Visa, Mastercard, Discover, which is like 3%, and American Express, which is 3.5%. So, anyway, that extended 18-month plan, when they lower the price, the merchant processing fees, is good until tomorrow, the 8th, and so if you want 18-month financing from us, 0% interest financing for 18 months, take advantage of it.
