Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com’ and today is our biweekly massage chair industry update for Tuesday, June 20th, 2017, and I believe summer is coming tomorrow, so I hope you have a great summer. Of course, in the massage chair business, summer is usually a slower time, not a lot of new models coming out, not a lot of purchasing going on, compared to the other parts of the year.
[SCREEN TEXT: 888-259-5380]
Alan: But anyway, needless to say, it’s a great time to buy, because you know you’re going to have lots of stock. Usually, there’s usually some kind of a discount going on somewhere. So, you can always call us at 888-259-5380, or go to our website, to find out what the latest is, as far as deals go, and sales go.
[SCREEN TEXT: Stock Status]
Alan: But anyway, as far as I am aware of, the only – you know what, I don’t think we have any – I’ve not been notified of any stock issues at all, and that’s one of the great things of summer, is that there’s usually plenty of stock, not a lot of chairs that are out of stock because of high-volume purchasing. So, anyway, as of right now, and I could be mistaken, but I don’t have any notes that tell me that there’s any kind of a stock issue.
[SCREEN TEXT: uKnead Lohas in our Utah Showroom]
Alan: We received the uKnead Lohas, L-O-H-A-S, uKnead is U-K-N-E-A-D. We have the Lavita, and now we have the Lohas, in our showroom. It’s a fun little chair, we just got it a week or so ago. It has a unibody design, similar to the Novo XT, I’ve talked about it before. It’s got calf rollers, foot rollers, it’s a zero-gravity L-track chair. It’s a little more narrow than the Lavita, maybe a little more like the Apex Ultra, but this chair is a nice-looking chair, a very handsome chair. I don’t have it on my website yet, because we still have not received the specs, and feature set, and photos from uKnead. So, I’m not exactly sure when we’re going to have that, hopefully soon. But the remote control on the Lohas is very similar to that of the Lavita, it’s a strong massage, good massage, not a terribly wide massage, and I’m a 42-inch jacket, and it’s snug for me. So, if you’re a big-bodied person, really wide in the shoulders, particularly, it may be a little tight for you. But it’s a nice-looking chair, a good, firm massage, like most of the chairs are from uKnead, or all the chairs are from uKnead, very strong, good neck massage, and of course, good butt massage with the L-track, so I just wanted to let you know about that.
[SCREEN TEXT: Cozzia Qi on the Website Now]
Alan: Also, we have the – OK, even though I don’t have it in the showroom – we do now have the Cozzia Qi on our website. This is a chair that kind of came out, I’d say a year ago, and garnered quite a bit of attention because of its scanning feature, its self-diagnostic program. And what it has, first of all, the chair runs from an iPad, and I believe that when you buy the chair, they will send you like a redeemable gift certificate for the Apple store to buy the iPad, and if you have an iPad already, you can buy something else with it. But on the remote control, I mean, by the remote control pedestal on the left-hand side of the chair, there is a little handle, a little sensor, that you hold with your hand. When I first saw the pictures, I thought it was like a stick shift, or something, but it’s not. It’s just a sensor you hold, and it measures biometrics, and I believe it measures perspiration, probably pulse, probably a couple of other things that I’m, at this point, fully, completely unaware of, but it does measure these things in the process of evaluating what the chair’s going to do for your spine. It also has a scanning program, you know, a typical scanning program, for your height, and your you know, where your shoulders are, and your neck, and whatnot. And then, it has on the right-hand side, another little dial, kind of like what you’d have in a car – like my car’s got a little dial where I can change the radio station, or change, you know, where I’m at in my playlist – but this little dial is what is used to adjust the 4D, which is basically 3D, the three dimensions of the chair, the width, the height, and the depth of the rollers, as well as the speed of the rollers. And so, it’s a nifty little thing that you can just turn like a dial, where your right hand is, which is pretty doggone cool, if you ask me. It’s a nice-looking chair, and it’s got a similar body design to the Ogawa Smart 3D, as well as the, it kind looks like some of the L-track chairs. Even though the Qi is not an L-track, it looks like some of the L-track chairs, like the Osaki Summit, or Maxim. But anyway, we have that chair up on our website now, you can go read all the features. It’s $9999, some of the features I told you about include the sensor, which they call that part of the self-diagnostic program, which works in concert with the app that you download to the iPad to run the chair. It has the 4D adjustment, which they call the ‘4D Vario-Motion Mechanism,’ it has aided rollers, it’s got foot rollers that move in different directions, it’s got zero gravity, chromotherapy, which is the lighting. It has some Bluetooth speakers so you can connect your device, your phone device, or whatnot, to the chair, and play your music over it. It’s got programs, manual settings – oh, it’s got some quick buttons on the armrest, also on the right-hand armrest, to – you can adjust some of the functions, and the positioning of the chair. Anyway, that is an interesting-looking chair, and but the one caveat to it is that the width of the box is 36 inches, and the chair comes in one piece, and if you do not have a door that can handle a 36-inch box, this chair will probably not be good for you. You’ll probably want to get something different, that maybe comes disassembled, and can fit the boxes through the door. And most chair boxes will get through at least a 36 inch, very much, all the boxes will get through a 36-inch door, but most of them will only require 32, 33 inches. Well, this one requires 36 for sure, so if you’ve got a stairwell, or you know, a nice circular staircase, or a doorway, as far as an entranceway to the room that you want to go, that is less than 36 inches, the chair probably is not right for you, don’t waste your time with it. And we’ll include, of course, the white-glove delivery with this chair, because it’s such a big chair. It comes in one box, so we will include the white-glove delivery for you, so you don’t have to deal with getting the chair in your house. But it doesn’t matter if we’ve got experts to bring in the chair if you can’t get the bloody thing through the doorway, the box through the door. It doesn’t matter how good they delivery guys are, if they cannot get that chair through the doorway, so anyway, buyer beware.
[SCREEN TEXT: Cozzia Qi SE – 3D L-Track! Coming in August]
Alan: Now, Cozzia’s got another chair coming out, called the Qi SE, and it is a chair that I’d going to be Cozzia’s first L-track, and it’s supposed to be coming out in August sometime, from what I understand. And it’s got, what it has is, it’s got a 3D L-track, and there’s not many 3D L-tracks out there. And you know, we have the Human Touch Novo XT, which is a 3D L-track, and now this Cozzia Qi SE, which is going to have an L-track, a 3D L-track. It also has a space-saving feature. It also has the same kind of 4D Vario, you know, what do you call it again, the ‘Vario-Motion Mechanism,’ to move the rollers side to side, up and down, in and out, and adjust the speed. But it also will run off a tablet, like its sister chair, the Qi, does. Now, this chair, I think, is going to be priced at $6499, so it’s quite a bit less than the Qi, but it has, you know, less diagnostic features, and that’s really the guts of that other chair, the Qi, is that it’s got a sophisticated scanning sensor system, and this one will not have that. It’ll still have a body scan, but not the sensor biometrics measurement feature. OK, and that is the Qi SE.
[SCREEN TEXT: Positive Posture Brio 3D L-Track]
Alan: Now, also, speaking of 3D L-tracks, OK, there’s a chair coming out called the Brio, and the Brio is a chair that is coming out from a line of ergonomic zero-gravity chairs called Positive Posture chairs. Now, the company that is – OK, first of all, there’s a company called Furniture for Life, Furniture for Life is the parent company of now, they’re now the distributors for Panasonic, they are the distributors of Inada, that’s how they basically got started, was Inada – and now, they have another arm, called Positive Posture, which are these non-massage chairs that are zero-gravity, back-friendly recliners. And they have another one, I think it’s called Valleyere, or Valleyere, or Vallea, which is more furniture, or beds, or something. I can not remember, sorry, I’m not up on that, because I don’t carry those other products, but Positive Posture, now is going to have a 3D L-track coming out, called the Brio. I mean, I talked to Cliff Levin, who’s the president of Furniture for Life, and also of Inada USA, and he was telling me about this chair, and I was kind of excited about it because I’ve always wanted more 3D L-tracks, and I can’t seem to get them. I mean, I know Infinity has some available, but they sell them through some of their, you know, exclusive deals with some stores, like Mattress Firm, or Brookstone, or whatever, and we’ve not been able to get one from them. We don’t have one from Osaki or Titan. We do have one now from Human Touch, but there’s not a lot out there. I kind of mentioned that earlier, there’s not a lot out there. Well, anyway, now, Cliff told me that they’ve got, from Positive Posture, a chair called the Brio, and it’s going to have the same support as Inada has, and as Panasonic now has. They’re part of the Furniture for Life distribution network, and I’m quite excited about it, and this chair is the kind of chair that will have, if Cliff Levin is involved in it, you know it’s going to have his fingerprints on it, which are going to be a quality chair, you know, good workmanship. This chair will be made in China, but it will probably feel – and I’ve heard from people that have tested the chair – that it feels kind of like a Japanese chair, as far as the nuance of the massage system goes. So, anyway, we’re excited to get that chair, and that chair is supposed to be out in the next couple of weeks, and I’ve already requested one for both of my showrooms. And so, the Brio, B-R-I-O, I should have it on my website within the next week, but that will be another 3D L-track, and that chair’s going to go for $4999, which is a decent price. So, here, just so that you know, the 3D L-tracks are coming. We have the Novo XT right now, we know about the Luraco Legend, which is going to come out at the end of the third quarter, beginning of the fourth quarter of this year. That’s the American-made Luraco coming. Now, we have the Positive Posture Brio coming from the Furniture for Life people, same folks that distribute Inada and Panasonic in the US, and we also have the Qi SE from Cozzia, which are all 3D L-tracks, and I’m very excited about this, because I like the idea of a 3D L-track. And this is a nice selection too, it’s not one company that has all the options. You’re getting one from Human Touch, you’re getting one from Luraco, you’re getting one from the Positive Posture, and one from Cozzia. So, you’re getting a really nice set of choices to pick from. So, anyway, I just wanted to let you know about that too. Now, the, oh, Human Touch, by the way, they moved from – they’re still in Long Beach – but they moved from their location they’ve been at for years, and I just received notification that they’ve moved to another location in Long Beach that’s still close to our Southern California showroom, but they have moved. So, congratulations to Human Touch on moving to a new facility. I don’t know if it’s a bigger facility, or it has, you know, I don’t know what the motivation for the move was, but I’ll probably find out more when I go to visit them, and check out their new place.
[SCREEN TEXT: Ogawa Active SuperTrac Not Carried by Massage Chair Relief … for Now]
Alan: One thing that we have done, that I did, I kind of chose to do this, you know, Ogawa’s got the Smart 3D, they have the Active SuperTrac, and the Ogawa Refresh, and those chairs are the three models they have. I understand they may be coming out with an L-track too, I don’t know if it’s a 3D L-track, or what, but later in the year, they may be getting one, and for the Christmas rush. I’m not sure, but I have heard that, and as you know, or may not know, Ogawa and Cozzia are the same, they’re built by the same, it’s the same company, and it’s built in the East Pau factory in Xhao Ming, China. Anyway, I know that they’ve been, they’re playing around with the pricing of the Active SuperTrac. Now, I assume that that chair is maybe not selling as well as they’d like, so they’ve dropped the price. I think they’re testing a price of $2999. I had a price-match request for $2399, or something insane, which when you combine the price of the chair, with the cost of shipping, and the cost of credit card processing fees, I actually lose money at that price. So, rather than carry the chair, and have to do price matches where I’m losing money all over the place, I have chosen for our company to discontinue that model for us, until they maybe stabilize pricing a little bit better. The price, as you know, used to be $4999, then $4499, and then they dropped it down again, I think, to $3999 for holidays, and now it’s down to like $2999, or something like that. So, if that’s a chair that you like, and you want, you know, go look around, it sounds like you can get some screaming deals on it. You won’t be getting it from us because we’ve discontinued that model until we know if their pricing has stabilized. But I’m not going to sell chairs I’m going to lose money on, for heaven’s sake, that’s ridiculous, especially with our lifetime-labor warranty, that does not work for me. So, I just wanted to let you know about that.
[SCREEN TEXT: Iliotibial Band Massage]
Alan: OK, now, one last thing I just wanted to talk about, and I’m going to be writing a blog article about this, you know, next week, or sorry, later this week, but there is a muscle that goes from the hip down to the knee, and that’s called the iliotibial band. And it goes from the ileum, which is the hip, or the pelvic-girdle bone, down to the tibia, which is the main bone in the leg. And that muscle, the iliotibial band, it’s more almost like a ligament/muscle tendon. It’s a fairly tight band that runs along the side of the thigh. Now, if you’ve had back pain, knee pain, hip pain, I would almost guarantee that you’ve got some tenderness to the iliotibial band. And you can tell when you’ve got tenderness to the iliotibial band, because if you push hard on the side of your thigh, a little bit down past midway, you know, you’ll feel it tender there. Or if you have a massage therapist that’s working the iliotibial band along the side of your thigh, you will feel it, it’s tender, it’s painful. Now, we have some chairs, like the Inada DreamWave, and the Panasonic MA73, or the MA70, and maybe even the Osaki Dreamer, that have hip airbags that inflate pretty intense in to that iliotibial band, and if you’re tender, those chairs will figure that out pretty quick for you. I had a customer that bought an MA70, and he emailed me just over the weekend, saying ‘You know, it’s kind of sore on my hip, along my hip, is there any way to decrease the intensity?’ Well, you can decrease the airbag intensity, but if you’ve got a tight iliotibial band, it’s going to be tender no matter – well, not no matter how low – but even the lowest setting, you might feel some tenderness there. Now, a lot of chairs have hip airbags, but they’re more designed to kind of squeeze as a broad contact, and hold your hips in place while the rollers go up and down your back. Well, some of these other chairs have more specific airbags that kind of drill in to that, in to the side of the thigh, and I consider that quite therapeutic for the iliotibial band. So, if you’ve got tenderness there, or you’ve had back, or knee, or hip issues, whether it be injuries, or surgeries, or you know, whatever, you will find that that muscle will be tender, and some of these chairs do a dang good job of hitting that area. So, I just wanted to talk a little bit about that how massage chairs can help that muscle.
