Alan: Hi, I’m Dr. Alan Weidner from ‘Massage-Chair-Relief.com‘ and today I’m going to explain to you what a retractable ottoman is. There’s a few chairs that have that, not many, but there’s a few chairs. Now, on most massage chairs, the ottoman, which includes the foot and the calf massager, are just out, I mean, you see them out. If you look at this chair right here, foot and calf massager, out, it’s not hidden, everybody can see it. Same with this chair over here, foot and calf ottoman, out, everybody can see it. Here on the Iyashi, you see the foot and calf ottoman, out. Some people don’t like that, they want a chair that looks a little bit more like a piece of furniture – and not like a, some kind of space machine, or some kind of – they don’t want it to look like a therapeutic chair sitting in their living room or family room.

Alan: Well, a few chairs, like the Human Touch ZeroG 4.0, the Human Touch HT-7450, and the 9500, along with Panasonic MA70, they have integrated either a retractable ottoman, or a rotating ottoman, so you can could hide the calf wells and the foot wells. Well, I’m going to demonstrate one on the ZeroG 4.0, because this is one of the nicer retractable ottoman features that I can show you. Now, you see, we’ve deployed the ottoman, the foot and calf of each – you know, the feet and calves go in to these wells, and that thing sticks out – but we can retract it when we’re done our massage. I’m retracting it now, and you’ll see how the ottoman actually comes in underneath the seat, and the chair hides it. So, when it is fully retracted, it doesn’t even look like a massage chair, it kind of obscures the fact that you’ve got a massage chair. That is a retractable ottoman. If we go over here and take a look at the HT-7450, the 7450 doesn’t have a retractable ottoman, but it has a rotating ottoman, and you can rotate the ottoman like that, and now it hides the calf wells.

Alan: Also, we have the same feature over here on the Panasonic MA70. If you’ll follow me over here, we have the same feature, you can rotate the ottoman, so it hides the foot and calf wells. So, that retractable ottoman, or a rotating ottoman, is a nifty aesthetic feature that allows you to hide those ugly calf and foot wells from the massaging feature of the ottoman, if you want to. The vast majority of chairs do not have that feature, but these are a few of the examples of chairs that have it. So, if you want to hide your ottoman, and you don’t want it to look like a massage chair, that feature will help out quite a bit.
