How to Head off Stress and Anxiety Every Day

Stress and anxiety can lead to a large number of health issues, from heart problems to muscle and joint aches to headaches. If you feel constantly stressed out, you may just need to take a moment and look at your daily routine. What can you do differently to keep yourself calm, cool, and collected?

Start by waking up earlier. Sleeping late starts your day on a stressful note as you rush to get ready for work. Waking up just five to fifteen minutes earlier can help you relax in the morning and make a world of difference. In the car, listen to some music. Music has a calming effect and is a fantastic way to relieve stress, whether on the way to work or lying in bed after a long day. Next, try to exercise as much as you can. Exercise releases endorphins, which make you feel great. Yoga is also a way to help beat stress. Next, a sneaky little trick: did you know that peppermint can help you relax? In a NASA study, it was found that commuters who smelled peppermint decreased their anxiety and fatigue levels by 20 percent. Take a to-go mug of peppermint tea with you on your way out the door to feel more refreshed and relaxed when you get to work. Finally, stop procrastinating. Putting off tasks that you dread only makes those undesirable chores pile up. Get those things out of the way and you’ll feel a huge weight lifted from your shoulders. In fact, if you can do all of these things, your shoulders, neck, and back might start to feel a whole lot better!
