Despite its predominately negative stereotype, stress can be a healthy, positive thing. Some levels of stress can supply a person with increased energy and enhanced focus; it provides an extra push to accomplish tasks. After a certain point the stress becomes negative, marked by increased heartbeat and blood pressure, anxious feelings, and a loss of focus. There are many healthy mechanisms to cope with stress, including exercise, meditation, and counseling. Everyone responds to stress and coping mechanisms differently, so it is important to find one’s own methods to cope. Healthier lifestyles, relaxation methods, and cognitive health all play a role.
