Across the globe, employee suicide rates have been rising since 2007, with more than 30,000 employee suicides since 2003. Worker stress can come from many sources, but most workers report that stress to meet deadlines, competition from co-workers, and interpersonal problems such as rivalries. However, one type of employee seems to be far less stressed and unhappy than the general employee population. Workers at small businesses report happiness and satisfaction as an employee at a rate of 84%. About half of them specifically state that simply being at a small business was the reason for their happiness, citing greater recognition, better working conditions, and the fact that their work had a larger impact in comparison to larger businesses.
