Chairs vs. Drugs

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

When dealing with pain, there are many treatment options available.  One option involves the use of pharmaceuticals and another involves the use of massage, and natural relaxation techniques to treat and relieve the pain.  They can either be used alone, or in conjunction with each other.

Pharmaceuticals can help to dull and lessen the pain of muscle strain and after muscular injury.  They can deliver immediate results, but those results typically last, at the most, eight hours.  However, medication used to treat pain can have side effects such as drowsiness, which makes it inappropriate to take during work as it could affect your ability to perform.  Long term use of these strong painkillers can also cause the body to build up a tolerance to them, and can cause symptoms of withdrawal when they are not taken any longer.

Natural methods, such as massage can be more beneficial in the long term, because it not only relieves pain, but it prevents the pain from returning.  Massage works directly on the source of the problem, unlike medication that affects the nervous system.  Massage provides the increased blood flow, and flexibility that our muscles need to heal and to function properly.  Massage chairs provide the treatment that is needed to maintain long term relief from back pain.  It doesn’t have any of the side effects that pain killers have, and can be used as long and as often as needed or wanted.

Against Meds

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Often, back pain is treated with medication, but this isn’t the only solution or necessarily the best solution.  Medications used to treat pain mainly affect the central nervous system, essentially “turning off’ pain, and therefore do not treat the underlying issues creating the pain.  They are used often because back pain sufferers need something to manage their pain while they are receiving other treatments such as chiropractic care, acupuncture, or massage.  Medications can help relax the body, and make other forms of treatment more successful.  However, as with all medications, there are side effects that may make you unable to take them during daytime hours, or while at work.

Chiropractic care works well for cases of severe back pain.  It focuses on spinal manipulation in order to ease strain on the muscles of the back and to prevent damage to the bones and nerves of the back.  Chiropractic care can be expensive, as many sessions cost around $65.

Acupuncture, which involves the insertion of tiny needles into a specific area of the body, is most effective when done regularly and can be a big financial investment similar to chiropractic care.  Acupuncture can prove to be a good treatment for all kinds of back pain, from the occasional mild pain to severe, more chronic pain.

Massage is mainly effective on mild to moderate back pain.  Massage is a great when used alone, or coupled with any of the treatment methods listed above.  Massage relaxes the whole body as well as the mind, which can actually decrease the body’s response to pain signals.  Like the other treatments, massage must be done regularly to be effective.  It can also be expensive when done by a massage professional or at a health spa, but there are much more affordable, at-home treatments available!  Massage chairs can be substituted for all those trips to a professional’s office, and can be used at any time of the day or night.

Benefits of Owning a Massage Chair

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Everyone enjoys a good massage, but many budgets do not allow for weekly or even monthly visits to the spa or health club to have a professional massage done.  Many people’s schedules are so busy that even if finances aren’t a hindrance, finding time in the schedule for an half hour or hour massage is next to impossible.  An easy and affordable solution to this is to invest in a massage chair for your home or even your office.  A massage chair can offer most all of the benefits that a professional masseur can, and even some that a masseur can’t.  A massage chair, depending on the type, can offer a wide range of massages.  This can be done at your convenience instead of having to make an appointment to visit a massage professional.

There are so many different types of massage chairs available, that there is one that will suit every person’s needs.  While the initial investment may seem like a lot depending on the model of massage chair you choose, over time, you will spend significantly less than traveling to and from a spa, paying for parking, and paying the masseur.

There are also many other massage options available that you can do at home.  Hand held massagers are used to target specific areas of the body.  There are also massage pads that can attach to the back of your chair at home, office, or in your car that can provide a gently massage.

Benefits of Massage Recliner

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Recliners are some of the most comfortable types of chairs.  Many people look forward to relaxing in theirs at the end of a long work day.  Now, imagine if that already incredibly relaxing chair could also give you a good massage to relax you before bed, and to relieve the stiff and sore muscles you may have.

Massaging recliners are massage chairs that many times resemble standard recliner models.  These massage chairs can be incorporated into any office color scheme or home décor.  The only difference is that massaging recliners are fitted with specialized mechanisms and equipment necessary to operate and create the massage experience for you.

There are also some very affordable options with it comes to at-home massage.  There are massage pads that can be fitted on the seat of your car.  These offer support as well as a relaxing massage while you are driving to and from work or on a long vacation.  These are easily portable, and can even be taken from the car into the office to attach to your office chair essentially turning it into a massage chair to provide relaxation and comfort throughout the day.

Human Touch Massage Technology

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Massage chairs have been available to the average consumer for many years.  In the fairly recent past, a newer type of massage chair has come onto the market, and is now widely available.  Human Touch massage chairs mimic the type of massage that you would receive from a professional masseuse, with results that are comparable to the massage performed by a massage professional.

Anyone can benefit from any type of massage chair, as any type of massage, when performed safely, is better than no massage at all.  However, a Human Touch massage chair has the ability to further increase the effectiveness and benefits of the massage.  Users of the Human Touch chairs reported that they felt an increased sense of relaxation and stress reduction than with conventional massage chairs.  Someone that suffers from pain in several areas of the body can definitely benefit from a good massage chair.  Human Touch chairs most times offer an all over massage so that the body is relaxed all over.  This ensures that the user of the chair can start again with a completely fresh slate of relaxed and rejuvenated muscles.  When muscles of the back and body are relaxed, then your chances of muscular injuries decreases significantly.

Benefits of Massage Chairs

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Massage therapy is most effective when it is performed on a regular basis.  Massage chairs can make daily massage therapy a reality at a cost that is much more affordable and takes much less time than visiting a massage professional every day.  Massage chairs offer immediate treatment without any side effects like many medications used to treat pain can.

Massage chairs can also offer preventative benefits.  Relaxed muscles have more flexibility and are less prone to injuries such as muscle spasms or strains.  Athletes can benefit from daily massages, because massage loosens tight muscles after a hard workout and allows the body to recover more quickly.  Massage chairs also increase circulation throughout the entire body as it manipulates the muscles with kneading and percussive motions.  Improved circulation distributes more oxygen and vital nutrients to the muscle systems and organs.

A massage chair provides a comfortable environment in which to have your massage.  Sometimes people are nervous to see a masseuse because they are unfamiliar with them, or because they feel uncomfortable being undressed.  Having a massage chair in your home allows you to have your massage done in your pajamas in front of the television if you would like.  It can also be used at any time of the day or night, so you are not limited to an appointment time, or a specific duration of massage.

The Effects of Massage Chairs

Monday, March 1st, 2010

When massage chairs were first available, they were extremely expensive.  But, as with most technology, it has become more affordable to the general public as more and more manufacturers begin to make them, and the market has become more competitive.  Research proving that massage has a positive impact on a person’s overall health has helped to drive the market as well.

The majority of massage chairs offer either a Shiatsu or Swedish massage.  Both kinds of massages are beneficial in different ways.  Shiatsu massage is focused on specific areas of the body to relieve tension and uses pressing motions.  Swedish massage involves longer strokes, and is great for increasing circulation to all areas of the body.  Both provide a relaxing massage that will help relieve pain, relax your body, and help you to fell better overall.

Some higher end massage chair models offer rollers in the areas of the back, legs, and arms.  Others offer options such a heated massage, or a vibrating type of massage.  Some of the most costly, but most effective massage chairs can ‘memorize’ the size, shape and weight of a person’s body and customize a massage for a specific individual.  These types of massage chairs often also offer acupressure, which uses air bags to target specific points of soreness or stiffness.

A Review of Popular Massage Chairs

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Massage chairs are available from a vast number of manufacturers.  There are several different kinds of chairs available from each manufacturer, and they can vary greatly in the options they offer as well as the types of massage that they can accomplish.

One way to compare massage chairs is to do online comparisons.  There is so much information available on the internet, that it is very easy to get a basic knowledge of different chairs.  Reading product descriptions as well as reviews submitted by consumers will help you decide if a chair may be what you’re looking for.

Some massage chairs offer options that can make the massage more custom tailored to the user’s needs.  These features can include things like stiffness sensors that help to target the areas of the body that need to be focused on.  So called ‘human touch’ massage chairs are available from a company called iJoy.  Human touch massage chairs can offer a massage that most closely resembles a massage that would be performed by a massage professional.  They can command a higher price than a more basic type of massage chair, but is still less expensive over the long-term than going to a masseuse for regular treatment.
