Saturday, April 24th, 2010

If you are worried about the possible side effects of taking medications for migraine headaches, try one of the many safe and natural approaches to treating your pain.

Because of the differences of body chemistry and make-up, not all general pain relievers are effective at treating people the same. Just because one type of treatments works for one person, it doesn’t mean the same treatment will be just as effective for another. Because of this you will need to try the various treatments to fine what works for you.

One of the natural treatments is getting an adjustment with a chiropractor. Studies revealed that 80% of patients found some relief after getting treated by a chiropractor. Spinal problems can actually be the cause of the headaches and can be eliminated with regular treatment.

Another way to treat headaches is by releasing muscle tension, particularly in the neck and shoulders. A chair massage focusing on those areas can help to reduce the stress of the muscle tissue, relaxing the tendons and helping to reduce migraine headaches.

Headache Treatments

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Headaches are a common ailment with a variety of treatments. Common medications include but are not limited to, acetaminophen, ibuprofen and naproxen all of which are marketed under a lot of different names. Additionally, there are many natural treatments targeted toward people seeking a more holistic approach to headache pain management.

A non-medicinal approach, or one without ingesting medication rather, is fingertip therapy. Gently massaging certain muscles, nerve areas, joints and acupressure points can relieve headache pain and also be quicker than popping a couple of pills with none of the side effects that can occur over time with the use of medication.

The first area to massage for tension or any other kind of headache is your temporalis muscle. When your teeth are clenched, it is the tender area where you feel a muscle move. Using two fingers to gently massage this area and apply pressure can help relieve pain.

Other areas include behind the large bones behind your ears, which should be done with the thumbs, between the eyes using an upward pinching motion as to feel the pressure in your eyebrows and the web of your hands in almost the same manner. The neck is another area of interest and can be massaged by alone, or with the use of a massage chair.
