Cancer Pain Management

Cancer can be a bleak and trying condition to deal with in any of it’s many forms. Each form comes with it’s own kind of pain that affects people in different ways. Pain management plans are critical to cancer survival and should be developed with a doctor, monitored accordingly, and changed as needed.

Pain management plans start with being very specific with your doctor. The more informed your doctor is, the better they will be able to treat your pain, so noting when and where the pain started as well as severity, duration and description of the pain is critical.

Medicinal treatment is generally where pain control begins. Your doctor is likely to suggest several different drugs or combinations of medications to treat pain and the success of them is highly dependant on communication with the doctor.

Other methods include heat and cold therapy. The cold is used to reduce swelling and numb pain. The heat is to relax muscles. Massage therapy or use of a massage chair can relax tense muscles as well. Pain killing skin creams, drugs that are used to treat depression and in sever cases, nerve blocks are used to treat pain in cancer patients as well.
