Human Touch Massage Technology

March 12th, 2010

Massage chairs have been available to the average consumer for many years.  In the fairly recent past, a newer type of massage chair has come onto the market, and is now widely available.  Human Touch massage chairs mimic the type of massage that you would receive from a professional masseuse, with results that are comparable to the massage performed by a massage professional.

Anyone can benefit from any type of massage chair, as any type of massage, when performed safely, is better than no massage at all.  However, a Human Touch massage chair has the ability to further increase the effectiveness and benefits of the massage.  Users of the Human Touch chairs reported that they felt an increased sense of relaxation and stress reduction than with conventional massage chairs.  Someone that suffers from pain in several areas of the body can definitely benefit from a good massage chair.  Human Touch chairs most times offer an all over massage so that the body is relaxed all over.  This ensures that the user of the chair can start again with a completely fresh slate of relaxed and rejuvenated muscles.  When muscles of the back and body are relaxed, then your chances of muscular injuries decreases significantly.

Modern Day Conditions

March 11th, 2010

These days many people spend long hours at work sitting behind a desk, or some in some similar environment where they are not adequately active throughout the day.  Typically, these jobs also involve a high level of stress.  While you can’t change the fact that our jobs require us to work with these conditions, you can do several things to help mitigate the negative impact that stress and a sedentary work environment can have on your body and overall health.

Back pain can be caused by several things including improper posture and various types of injuries.  The good news is that massage works well to relieve almost all types of back pain.  It is a non invasive way to manage and prevent pain that has no side effects.  Massage impacts the muscles directly, but can have residual positive effects in many other areas.  Massage has been shown to improve the symptoms of insomnia and other nervous conditions.  It has also been proven to improve circulation which helps distribute blood and oxygen to the entire body, and also rids the body of toxins. Massage is more and more often becoming a part of regular treatments in hospitals and other types of care facilities.

Cerebral Palsy Treatment

March 10th, 2010

Cerebral palsy is an incurable condition encompassing a group of non-progressive, non-contagious motor conditions that cause physical disability in human development. Vast assortments of treatments are available to improve mobility, strengthen affected muscle groups and maximize quality of life in sufferers of this disorder. Treatment is very patient specific and should be monitored and adjusted as needed.

Basic treatment for cerebral palsy begins with physical therapy. Physical therapy begins almost immediately after the disorder is diagnosed and generally continues throughout the person’s life. Other initial treatments include medicines used to treat seizures such as injectable antispasmodics to relax tightened muscles allowing for greater range of motion.

Ongoing treatment for cerebral palsy varies greatly as per patient but can include orthopedic surgery to prevent future problems with bones associated with the affected area.

Massage therapy is a common treatment for people with cerebral palsy to relax tight muscles, strengthen muscles and increase flexibility in joints. The use of a massage chair is encouraged for ongoing treatment. Breathing exercises used in tandem with massage therapy are also beneficial and can help to prevent lung infections. While more research is needed to determine the effectiveness, both are still beneficial when used as recommended and adjusted accordingly.

Benefits of Massage Chairs

March 9th, 2010

Massage therapy is most effective when it is performed on a regular basis.  Massage chairs can make daily massage therapy a reality at a cost that is much more affordable and takes much less time than visiting a massage professional every day.  Massage chairs offer immediate treatment without any side effects like many medications used to treat pain can.

Massage chairs can also offer preventative benefits.  Relaxed muscles have more flexibility and are less prone to injuries such as muscle spasms or strains.  Athletes can benefit from daily massages, because massage loosens tight muscles after a hard workout and allows the body to recover more quickly.  Massage chairs also increase circulation throughout the entire body as it manipulates the muscles with kneading and percussive motions.  Improved circulation distributes more oxygen and vital nutrients to the muscle systems and organs.

A massage chair provides a comfortable environment in which to have your massage.  Sometimes people are nervous to see a masseuse because they are unfamiliar with them, or because they feel uncomfortable being undressed.  Having a massage chair in your home allows you to have your massage done in your pajamas in front of the television if you would like.  It can also be used at any time of the day or night, so you are not limited to an appointment time, or a specific duration of massage.

Chronic Pain Treatment

March 6th, 2010

Chronic pain comes in many forms and can be a debilitating condition. Good communication with a doctor about medications is the lynchpin of successful chronic pain management but that’s only part of a plan. A solid approach to treating chronic pain at home is needed to properly round out an effective system for dealing with your pain.

Balancing one’s diet is the first part of home care. Taking vitamins and supplements is also another option and should just be done anyway. Getting enough sleep is also a critical part of pain management. Setting a bedtime and wake-up time as to enact your body into a routine is another aspect that helps and should be a part of a schedule.

In addition to lifestyle changes, self-massage or the use of a massage chair can increase blood flow and ease tension to muscles that are involved with chronic pain.

If possible, a regular exercise routine that involves stretching and mobility increasing exercises can greatly increase energy and be greatly helpful to managing pain in addition to the other myriad benefits.

Reducing stress is also important. Relaxation therapy such as breathing exercises and meditation can set up all of the other parts of your management plan for success.

Knee Injury

March 4th, 2010

Over the course of a lifetime, most people will experience some form of knee pain or injury. Most are just minor sprains and do not permanently impede mobility but without attention and care, the general use over time causing wear and tear can lead to problems in the future. More often than not, playing sports or other recreational activities and work-related tasks are causes of these injuries. Common home projects are also a culprit.

Treatment for these injuries vary greatly dependant upon the what part of the knee is injured. Light sprains and strains can be treated at home with heat and cold therapy to reduce swelling and ease tense muscles. Massage to the area promotes blood flow and can relieve pain in the strain. If the massage causes pain, it should stop.

More serious injuries such as ligament tears, fractures to the kneecap or lower portion of the femur, kneecap and knee joint dislocation should be treated by a physician.

Home treatment for the minor injuries starts with rest. Common sense says that if it hurts to move something, don’t move it. Protect the area. Ice for swelling and pain reduction is the next step. Compression and elevation complete the regiment of preliminary home care.

Headache Treatments

March 3rd, 2010

Headaches are a common ailment with a variety of treatments. Common medications include but are not limited to, acetaminophen, ibuprofen and naproxen all of which are marketed under a lot of different names. Additionally, there are many natural treatments targeted toward people seeking a more holistic approach to headache pain management.

A non-medicinal approach, or one without ingesting medication rather, is fingertip therapy. Gently massaging certain muscles, nerve areas, joints and acupressure points can relieve headache pain and also be quicker than popping a couple of pills with none of the side effects that can occur over time with the use of medication.

The first area to massage for tension or any other kind of headache is your temporalis muscle. When your teeth are clenched, it is the tender area where you feel a muscle move. Using two fingers to gently massage this area and apply pressure can help relieve pain.

Other areas include behind the large bones behind your ears, which should be done with the thumbs, between the eyes using an upward pinching motion as to feel the pressure in your eyebrows and the web of your hands in almost the same manner. The neck is another area of interest and can be massaged by alone, or with the use of a massage chair.

Cancer Pain Management

March 2nd, 2010

Cancer can be a bleak and trying condition to deal with in any of it’s many forms. Each form comes with it’s own kind of pain that affects people in different ways. Pain management plans are critical to cancer survival and should be developed with a doctor, monitored accordingly, and changed as needed.

Pain management plans start with being very specific with your doctor. The more informed your doctor is, the better they will be able to treat your pain, so noting when and where the pain started as well as severity, duration and description of the pain is critical.

Medicinal treatment is generally where pain control begins. Your doctor is likely to suggest several different drugs or combinations of medications to treat pain and the success of them is highly dependant on communication with the doctor.

Other methods include heat and cold therapy. The cold is used to reduce swelling and numb pain. The heat is to relax muscles. Massage therapy or use of a massage chair can relax tense muscles as well. Pain killing skin creams, drugs that are used to treat depression and in sever cases, nerve blocks are used to treat pain in cancer patients as well.

The Effects of Massage Chairs

March 1st, 2010

When massage chairs were first available, they were extremely expensive.  But, as with most technology, it has become more affordable to the general public as more and more manufacturers begin to make them, and the market has become more competitive.  Research proving that massage has a positive impact on a person’s overall health has helped to drive the market as well.

The majority of massage chairs offer either a Shiatsu or Swedish massage.  Both kinds of massages are beneficial in different ways.  Shiatsu massage is focused on specific areas of the body to relieve tension and uses pressing motions.  Swedish massage involves longer strokes, and is great for increasing circulation to all areas of the body.  Both provide a relaxing massage that will help relieve pain, relax your body, and help you to fell better overall.

Some higher end massage chair models offer rollers in the areas of the back, legs, and arms.  Others offer options such a heated massage, or a vibrating type of massage.  Some of the most costly, but most effective massage chairs can ‘memorize’ the size, shape and weight of a person’s body and customize a massage for a specific individual.  These types of massage chairs often also offer acupressure, which uses air bags to target specific points of soreness or stiffness.

More Than Skin Deep

February 28th, 2010

Massage provides a form of therapy and relaxation that is not paralleled by any other form of treatment.  Massage is much more than just a way to relax the muscles.  While muscle relaxation is a key to proper functioning of our bodies, massage also contributes to our overall wellness in a variety of ways.

Massage helps to improve blood flow to the body.  Improving circulation can help to lower blood pressure.  Poor circulation often times makes a person’s hands or feet cold because not enough warm, oxygenated blood is reaching them.  When blood is circulating properly, it can also help to aid in the removal of toxins from the body.  Massage does this by clearing away waste products made by the lymphatic system.

Massage can also help the body to look and feel better by increasing muscle tone.  Massage accomplishes this by stimulating the muscles to have a type of reflex that stimulates the muscles to contract and relax as they would during light toning exercises.

This is especially beneficial to those people who for whatever reasons cannot participate in a regular exercise program or have an occupation that requires them to be sedentary much of the time.  Massage chairs are a great tool to help maintain a regular massage schedule both at work and at home.
