Zero Gravity Massage Chairs

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

What is the Story Behind Zero Gravity Massage Chairs

I don’t know the exact history of zero gravity massage chairs (also known as “anti-gravity”), but I will take a stab at it based on my own experience with massage chairs over the last 8-9 years, mingled with a little therapeutic angle based on my 19 years in the chiropractic profession.

Zero-gravity has become a fairly loose term in the massage chair industry as of late. Everyone seems to think that their chairs are zero gravity

Zero Gravity Massage Chairs

massage chairs. When I look at the chairs that claim this feature, I am a little surprised at what is considered zero gravity and wonder if it is nothing but false advertising to get the zero gravity “crowd” to buy into a particular model since it has become such a catch phrase amongst shoppers.

History of Zero Gravity Massage Chairs

The whole concept of zero gravity was introduced by NASA for their space program. Human Touch, which is the largest US manufacturer of massage chairs, adapted the zero-gravity concept to household chair design, first displayed in their Perfect Chair line of chairs. According to Human Touch’s website…

Inspired by the Neutral Body Posture studied by NASA during the Skylab program, the [Perfect Chair] zero gravity recliner places the body in a virtually weightless position to provide relaxation and minimum muscle tension. In this therapist-recommended position, the spine, hips, and knee joints are on or close to the balanced midpoint of the muscles.

The idea behind the zero gravity positioning is to take pressure off the joints of the body where strain tends to occur as a result of the gravitational pull, i.e. low back, hips, upper back, neck, knees, etc. I don’t know if you are aware of this, but gravity is one of the most punishing forces of nature on the human body. If your body is not perfectly aligned and balanced, gravity will make your body pay.

For example, if you have a forward head carriage and slouched shoulder posture, gravity is having a hay-day on your spine. You will feel more fatigued because your body is fighting the effects of the gravitational “pull”, not to mention the fact that your joints will wear out prematurely, leading to degenerative arthritis and other fun musculo-skeletal conditions.

If you have ever sat in a zero gravity chair, you completely understand the concept of “weightlessness” as it relates to the seated position. Many people have told me that they can sleep more comfortably in a zero gravity chair than they can in their regular bed. It is very comfortable, particularly for low back pain sufferers, as the chair positioning takes pressure off of the low back area.

So, What IS Zero Gravity?

Simply put, zero gravity, as it relates to the seated position, is having the seat of the chair tilt up at a 30 degree angle. That’s it! That 30 degree tilt has been established to be, by engineers much smarter than I, the optimal position for simulated weightlessness of the human frame. Human Touch took that concept and applied it to the Perfect Chair model.

Then Human Touch took that model and applied it to a more bulky massage chair model, the HT-7450 massage chair. Now, for the first time, a massage chair had the zero gravity feature. This, combined with the massage function, would provide a level of therapy heretofore unheard of in the massage chair industry.

Around this same time, Sanyo came out with the very popular Sanyo 7700 massage chair. The same 30 degree tilt of the seat, combined with massage therapy made this another of the zero gravity massage chairs. Both the Sanyo 7700 and the HT-7450 are very popular chairs for both manufacturers. I think the tilted seat makes them that popular.

Zero Gravity Massage Chairs – False Advertising?

So, why are all these other models claiming to be zero gravity massage chairs when their seats don’t tilt up at 30 degrees? I have no idea. Again, I think it is just a marketing ploy to exploit the zero gravity “craze” that is current in the industry. Don’t be fooled by claims of zero-gravity. Of course, any massage chair, whether it has true zero-gravity or not, is going to be fabulous for you in your home or office and you’re going to love every minute of it. But, if you are determined to get one of the true zero gravity massage chairs, buyer beware!

Massage Chair Relief Update

Friday, April 8th, 2011

With all the snow and rain we are getting in Utah, I would venture to say that it feels more like Christmas than it does Easter! Can’t wait for spring.

Anyways, here are some things going on at www.massage-chair-relief.com:

1. adding two models of the popular Perfect Chair series from Human Touch. The Perfect Chair is a zero gravity phenomenon that Human Touch came out with a number of years ago, but until recently, they did not have any models

Perfect Chair

PC-086

with a massage feature. That is why I never carried them…I was intent to remain somewhat true to the massage chair niche. Well, Human Touch has now come out with two new models, the PC-086 Serenity (yes, the same name as the Omega chair!), which boasts air bag massage and jade stone-transmitted infrared heat, and the PC-085 Transitional, which doesn’t have air massage but is a sister chair to the PC-086.

2. adding the Panasonic 30005 massage chair model. We currently carry the Panasonic 30007 and, though not on the website, the 30006. The 30005 is very similar in appearance to the 30006 but made in Japan. It doesn’t have as many air bags as the 30006/30007 but has an ultra deep massage program, which apparently goes deeper than the most intense setting of the 30007/30006…which is already pretty intense. I am not sure of the pricing on this model yet, but we should be getting this and the Perfect Chairs up soon.

3. Product page layout changes. Folks love watching our videos. So, we are going to have the videos more prominent on the product pages. Right now, you have to click the Video tab, which some folks aren’t even aware of. We will make the massage chair videos more readily available for viewing.

Also has the 60 degree swivel that Human Touch introduced to the world through the HT-125, 135, 136 chairs.

You can go to www.humantouch.com to view the chairs and then give us a call to complete your order. We include free shipping and bonus gifts with all our chair orders.

I know it sounds early to say this, but start thinking about massage chairs for Christmas gifts. Better to plan now than to try to beat the mad rush that inevitably goes on in December.

New Massage Chairs Coming From Omega Massage

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I just got off the phone today with Jimi and Peter at Omega Massage. We called to find out if the chair back problem that we had experienced with the Omega Montage Elite massage chair is still a problem or if it had been remedied. We had had a few models in our showroom but had decided to not carry them in our showroom because they had recurrent chair back problems, where the chair back wouldn’t come back up once it was fully reclined. Well, they told me that it has been rectified and a new motor has been put in these chairs to make sure that didn’t happen anymore. So, I am glad to hear that.

While on the phone, Jimi told me about the new Skyline and Serenity zero gravity massage chairs that they are coming out with later this year (probably September or later). These are very contemporary-looking massage chairs that go into a zero gravity position, much like the Perfect Chair by Human Touch. But, these ones have massage mechanisms in them, unlike the Perfect Chair. Jimi told me that it has a roller mechanism in the lumbar region but uses more air bags for the other parts for the massage effect. He sent me over a few pics of the new Skyline model and he gave me permission to share them with you. So, here they are:

What do you think? Kinda modern looking, but kinda cool looking too. I love the wood accents and the silver legs. We will give you the feature-set for these chairs when I get them from Omega Massage.

Have a super day!

Floor Model Massage Chairs For Sale!

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Well, as I mentioned in previous blog posts, their have been some developments with some of our massage chair models:

1. The Panasonic 30003 massage chair has been discontinued. The only reason we still have “In Stock” on our website is because we have our floor model available.

2. The HT-125 massage chair will be discontinued in 2009.

So, this means that I have two chairs on my showroom floor that must now be sold, since there are no news ones to sell! This is what I am making available to my website visitors:

1. Panasonic 30003 Massage Chair (black color)
Regular Price: $3999
Sale Price: $2499
Floor Model Price: $1899

2. HT-125 Massage Chair by Human Touch (cashew color)
Regular Price: $2299
Floor Model Price: $1299

3. I have two HT-1650 massage chairs in my showroom, with room for only 1. The HT-1650 is our 2nd most popular seller, behind the new Sogno PLUS massage chair. I am selling my black HT-1650 floor model for $3295!

HT-1650 Massage Chair by Human Touch (black)
Regular Price: $4795
Floor Model Price: $3295
The Panasonic 30003 and the HT-1650 are still under warranty. They are all good chairs, with a lot of mileage left in them. The upholstery is fantastic and they are all very, very clean.

I will pay for the shipping for you as well as throw in the bonus gifts that we offer with all our chairs. The Visa Gift Card special will not apply, however.

If you are interested in one or all of these chairs, you will have to call the office to place the order. Here is our toll free number: 1-888-259-5380. We’ll take good care of you over the phone.

By the way, we will be replacing these massage chairs but I am just not sure with what chairs! For sure, we will be carrying the Inada D5 Robo Massage Chair and the new Panasonic 30007 massage chair in the showroom and probably another HT model chair (either the HT-5005, HT-5270, or HT-5320…do you have an opinion as to which you would like to see in our showroom? Let us  know by responding to this blog entry and we’ll seriously consider your opinion). We may also carry the Perfect Chair, which is not a massage chair but one heckuva therapeutic chair made by Human Touch.

New Massage Chair Showroom Update

Monday, May 12th, 2008

As I mentioned a week or so ago, we are moving our showroom to another suite, where we can dedicate the whole space to massage chairs and not share with the chiropractic clinic. Another Doctor is managing the clinic now, leaving me to look after the massage chair business full time. I absolutely love the massage chair business, especially the internet end of it.

We had the walls textured and painted at the end of last week. We also had some tile put in the front entrance and had the carpet laid today. It looks beautiful…like a living room. You will feel so comfortable when you come visit us; just like you are in your own home. Tomorrow we will move the massage chairs over to the showroom and my wife still has some decorating to do. We are also going to go with as much incandescent lighting as possible and stay away from the fluorescent which are built into this building where the showroom now is. We figure that the natural lighting will feel better and warmer than the fluorescent bulbs which are so commonplace in commercial businesses.

We should be getting the new Inada massage chairs this month, along with the HT-103 and the Perfect Chair by Human Touch. We are excited to expand our brick and mortar selection for the good people of Utah. Some day we will have such a massage chair showroom in your city!

Our new address will be 2248 W. 5400 S. , Taylorsville, Utah. Our local phone number will remain the same at 801-417-8240 and our toll free number is also still the same…1-888-259-5380. You can get a hold of us either way. Come visit this unique massage chair showroom. You will love it!

Massage Chair Relief Showroom Moving!

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Well, it looks like we have outgrown our Massage Chair Relief Retail Outlet. We have been carrying 7 models in our current showroom, which is within the walls of our chiropractic clinic, but now, with the coming of the Inada models this month, we are out of room and are relocating our massage chair store to a different store front.

The good news is that we are relocating to a storefront within the same shopping center where the clinic and previous showroom are located. We will be dedicating about 500 square feet to a massage chair showroom. My good wife, Mona, is in charge of the interior decorating of the new showroom and I can tell you that she has the touch! She will be making the showroom feel like a living room so that visitors can get a feel for how their new massage chair would look and feel in their own living or family room.

We will also be carrying the Perfect Chair model P6 anti-gravity reclining chair by Human Touch, in addition to the 7 current models. This chair is not a massage chair, but is the motivation behind the new HT-7450 anti-gravity massage chair. I mentioned that we will be carrying the Inada massage chairs, but in the showroom we will begin with only the new Sogno massage chair and the model i2a chair.

This will give us 10 chair models available to the public. We will add more models as we go along, giving us, no doubt, the largest massage chair showroom in Utah, if not the rest of the western US (I will find out if there are any other showrooms in the country with as many models to choose from and try out as we have).

We are excited about the new showroom. It is going to be great to have a showroom solely dedicated to massage chairs and not have the chiropractic clinic as part of the display. Now, we can decorate as we see fit for the massage chair alone. We are excited to get this going. The construction, texturing, painting, baseboards, tile work, and carpet laying should be done this week. I will let you know when it is done, with some accompanying photos of the new showroom. I think you are going to love it!
