Massage Chairs and Neck/Shoulder Massage

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I received a good question from a client today and I thought it was good enough to put his question and my answer on this blog for your information:

Question:

I’m currently considering buying a massage chair. I have chronic muscle pain in my lower neck and shoulders. This is the ONLY reason I am thinking about buying one so this is the most important feature. What would you recommend for this?

Answer:

Thanks for your email. You will love having a massage chair! As far as the neck and shoulders go, I wonder if, when you say shoulders, you mean the top of the shoulders, i.e. the trapezius muscles, or the back of the shoulders where the shoulder blades are.

Regarding the top of the shoulders, 2 chairs come to mind: the Panasonic 30007 massage chair and the Inada Sogno Dreamwave Plus massage chair. The panasonic has a roller system that rolls somewhat forward over the top of the shoulders (trapezius muscles) before rolling up the neck. This little forward roll is appealing to folks looking for a good upper shoulder massage. The Sogno, on the other hand, has a separate cervical traction unit that uses air bags to knead the neck and 2 other airbags to compress onto the shoulders. As a chiropractor, I must say that the Sogno has the best therapeutic neck and shoulder massage. It is quite unique, not using rollers on the neck and shoulders, but airbags.

For the upper back and shoulder blades, the Human Touch chairs, i.e. the HT-1650 and HT-7120, have a very good roller mechanism that can get the neck massaged quite vigorously, but they do not roll over the shoulders at all. These chairs are great for upper back and shoulder blade areas. You can adjust the intensity of the roller massage so that you can get vigorous massage to the neck and shoulders if that is what you are looking for.

As you have chronic muscle pain, I would recommend using the chair more than once a day, once you are accustomed to the massage and over the initial soreness that often comes with massage therapy. It may take some time, but you will begin to notice a decline in muscle pain the more you use the chair. It is a wonderful therapy for musculo-skeletal problems. As a practicing chiropractor, I saw many of my patients who purchased massage chairs not return for therapy from me because their pain had lessened considerably.

I hope this helps in your decision making process. Feel free to call me on my personal number at 801-651-2026 if you have any further questions.

Massage Chairs and Great BBQue in Malad, Idaho!

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I get lots and lots of folks visiting our Massage Chair Relief showroom here in Salt Lake City from many of our neighboring states. As a matter of fact, we’ve had visitors from as far away as Georgia and Illinois. Well, we had a lovely 86 year old lady from Malad, Idaho come to our showroom yesterday to purchase an Inada i2A massage chair. I personally drove the 2 hours to her home this morning to drop off the chair. What a lovely town. I had driven past it many, many times en route to visit our folks in Canada but had never stopped there. I just loved it.

As we drove through the town to drop off the chair, we noticed a little B-B-Que place on the town’s main street called “Speros House of B.B. Que”. Of course, on the way out of town, I just had to stop there Massage chair owner at Spero BBQue in Malad, Idahofor lunch (can’t pass up a b.b.que place!). It is a little tiny building with the grills and smokers outside. There was cedar wood all over the ground and wooden park benches for sitting all over the place. The food was fantastic…I’m still full from the meal. Anyways, if you are driving down the I-15 between Pocatello and Salt Lake City, drop by for a visit and enjoy. I included a little pic of it.

We are going to have the Sanyo 7700 massage chair in our showroom, finally, next week. We are excited about that. We are also bringing back the Omega Montage massage chair to our showroom. We had some trouble in the past with the chair back not working right, but Omega has put in a new motor that makes everything just right. It was a fairly popular chair before so we are glad to get it back in the showroom. I hope to have a Serenity zero gravity massage chair in the showroom in October when they are first introduced to the US market.

Massage Chair Relief at the Eastern Idaho State Fair

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Our massage chairs are up in Blackfoot, Idaho this week for the Eastern Idaho State Fair. I know we have a lot of viewers from Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. If you are in the area, we’d love to have you come Massage Chairs at Idaho State Fairvisit and enjoy and massage on one of our great chairs. We have the HT-1650 and Inada Sogno massage chairs up there. Apparently, this is a big event for Eastern Idaho and folks come from all around to do their shopping. Steffanie worked there with the chairs over the Labor Day weekend and said it was swamped with folks wanting to sit on the chairs.

Other news in the massage chair industry:

1. Omega massage chairs figures that the new Serenity zero gravity massage chair will sell for $2499 and the Skyline version will sell for $1999. They tell me though that the Serenity is a better featured and looking chair.

2. Inada is coming out with another massage chair to replace the D-5 and D-6 models which were discontinued a couple of months ago. When I hear more about it, I will let you know.

3. Although the Sanyo 5000 massage chair has been discontinued, I still have access to the tan colored version. You can’t order them on my website, but you can call the showroom and place the order while supplies last. Our showroom number is 801-417-8240.
